Biography of HG Wells Herbert George Wells was born on September 21, 1866 in Bromley, Kent. Wells was an English author, political philosopher, sociologist, and historian. He was educated at the Normal School of Science in London, where he won a scholarship. Herbert soured as a drapers apprentice, bookkeeper, tutor, and diarist until 1895, when he became a sound-time author. Wells married his cousin, Isabel bloody chagrin Wells in 1891, but in 1894 he ran moody with Amy Catherine Robbins. She was a former pupil and in 1895, she became his second wife. He had a 10 year relationship with Rebecca West.
